Students wishing to compete for HTPA scholarships and HTPA members wishing to sponsor scholarship applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Sponsor Requirement All scholarship applicants must be sponsored by an HTPA member in good standing. There are no exceptions to this requirement. Questions & Answers - Read Carefully Download, print and read these important questions and answers. Application & Transcript Requirement Scholarship applicants shall forward by regular mail service a completed HTPA Scholarship Application with a certified copy of applicant's most recent transcript attached to the address indicated on the application. Copies of transcripts or Internet copies of transcripts are not acceptable. Without exception, all applications and transcripts must be postmarked no later than April 30th. By applying, applicants specifically authorize the HTPA Scholarship Committee to verify all of the data provided on scholarship applications. Written Essay Requirement Applicants shall submit simultaneously with their applications and transcripts a carefully prepared essay, the topic of which is: "What
is the single most important problem facing the world Applicants are expected to prepare their essays in Microsoft Word. Essays should be no more than 500 words, and should be double spaced and checked for correct grammar and punctuation. Applicants failing to fulfill the essay requirement or submitting an essay past the application submission deadline of April 30th will be disqualified. Interview Requirement Applicants shall be available to interview with the HTPA Scholarship Committee. Applicants or their HTPA sponsors will be contacted in advance. Scholarship Term & Limitations HTPA scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. Funding is made available only for the scholastic year beginning no later that the fall semester following the award. HTPA will award scholarships not to exceed $2,500 per applicant. The total amount of scholarship funds for distribution will be determined by the Board of Directors. At least two (2) scholarships will be awarded to applicants pursuing a transportation related degree. Qualified students are eligible to compete for HTPA scholarships for a maximum of four (4) years. Scholarship candidates must apply each year in which that student is seeking to compete for a scholarship. Announcement of Scholarship Awards Scholarship awards will be announced at an HTPA luncheon prior to the start of the fall semester. Member Applicant & Member-Sponsor Requirements Qualified HTPA members wishing to apply for scholarships for themselves, or wishing to sponsor a scholarship applicant, must meet the following requirements: HTPA member-applicants (HTPA members applying for scholarships) shall be qualified as members in good standing by a review of the association's meeting attendance log which is available at the registration table at each association luncheon meeting. A qualified member applying for a scholarship shall have a minimum of two years dues paid membership and shall have a record of attending four meetings during the calendar year preceding the award. A member cannot sponsor another member. HTPA member-sponsors shall have a minimum of two years dues paid membership and shall have a record of attending four (4) meetings during the calendar year preceding the award. All member-sponsors' attendance records will be verified by Scholarship Committee. A member-sponsor may elect to have attendance at a single HTPA golf tournament during the calendar year preceding the award count as a membership meeting in lieu of attendance at a monthly luncheon meeting. In this case, the member shall have been a paid, registered golf tournament player, or a working volunteer in support of an HTPA golf tournament during the calendar year preceding the award. A sponsoring member can sponsor no m ore than two (2) applicants, including themselves. Members on the Scholarship Committee cannot sponsor a candidate for a scholarship.
